-
Looks good. Is there some significance to Tête Jaune Cache?
-
good place to take a left turn and head south,,,
-
Ohhh, I see back down south to Kamloops!! Yeah!!! :P
-
If you are suggesting 30 days of vacation I dont see a need to make a left and head back south. Unless you are thinking about hitting up Baja?
-
Here is a route Nate Dogg suggested for going through the natl parks in Utah?
https://goo.gl/maps/cTeZTiTygv1omeh46
-
Gentlemen:
Here is the link to one of my previous suggestion of hitting up 5 Nat'l Parks in 5 days...
https://utah.com/five-national-parks-five-days (https://utah.com/five-national-parks-five-days)
-
Sweet!! Thanks Nate...
-
No problem.
Obviously, we would probably complete the route in the opposite order since we would not be coming from Salt Lake City area...plus we could actually hit five (5) parks and a few conservation areas!
McInnis Canyons, Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and then Zion.
Something like this:
https://goo.gl/maps/X3MgnBjpUsNboKGJ6 (https://goo.gl/maps/X3MgnBjpUsNboKGJ6)
-
I like it! That is quite a few miles for sure. Think we can handle it?
-
Of course we can! We are the 2wheelriders crew!! We will DOMINATE!!!
-
What time of the year are we thinking? Should we start throwing some dates around?
-
Yes, throw your dates around...
-
A date is a delicious bakery goodie,,,mmmm. Or the girl your taking to the movies, shit yeah throw her around,,,,,if you don't like that, you don't like p_ssy,,,,
-
Well that escalated fast.
Let me rephrase that. Should we work on figuring out a calendar date (as in time of year) as to when we should plan on taking our trip?
-
I am open pretty much all summer. Only 1 DJ job with this covid stuff going on. Any preference on time of the year?
-
Probably not to far into summer for a calendar date, because it will get sultry sweaty balls hot going southerly direction,,, maybe mid June? For how long?
-
I do not currently have any plans, work would probably be the only thing but won't really know until we get closer to those dates.
That being said, I was thinking early to mid June.
-
Memorial day is May 31. Would you guys be alright with incorporating that into the schedule?
-
Sorry for the delay...I am old and forgot.
Yes, I am okay with utilizing/incorporating Memorial weekend.
-
Gentlemen:
Obviously, we are no longer going to go over Memorial weekend. Should we discuss & lockdown new dates for the trip?
Tentatively we are still looking at this idea and route:
https://utah.com/five-national-parks-five-days (https://utah.com/five-national-parks-five-days)
https://goo.gl/maps/X3MgnBjpUsNboKGJ6 (https://goo.gl/maps/X3MgnBjpUsNboKGJ6)
Let us begin discussions, again!
Later,
Nate Dogg
-
Yes, lets get the date decided!
For late July - early August I have these dates available:
July 24
July 31
August 7
Using the weekends of the 24th and 31st would work best for me, but if need be, the 31st and 7th could work.
Yes, that route looks good to me.
Later,
Russ
-
,,,so the July 24 thru August 7, looks good, I will put it on my calendar!! I will put my vacation request in tomorrow!!
-
So, what are we actually thinking? Can everyone take a full two (2) weeks off? If we just take around a week, are we thinking about maybe leaving on a Thursday and coming back on a Monday, so we can have 10 days?
I believe this route is probably going to take 10 days, if we want 400-500 mile days for the longer runs and time to see the national parks, conservation areas, etc. (Obviously, the park days will have some really short mileage days if we dedicate roughly a day to each park, etc.)
Thoughts?
-
2 full weeks was a little longer than I was thinking. Friday the 23 is the earliest I could leave. If we go from Friday July 23rd to Sunday August 1st, that would be 10 days. Would that work for you all?
-
Either way should work for me. So if July 23rd thru August 1st works for you, that works for me.
Let's plan on those dates then.
All in favor?
-
I like it !!!
-
Alrighty then, I am going to put in my vacation request for July 23rd thru August 1st. It actually lines up well with my current controls jobs.
Later,
Nate Dogg
-
Ok, works for me, I will put it in my work calendar as well.
-
I'm on call that week but I will see if someone will switch with me.
-
Here I thought you were seeing our messages but not interested in going. Sooo, you will be joining us this year?! Good deal, so we are going to need places for 4 then?
-
I found someone to take my on call and Chris even let me have the week off!
-
Well, it is officially a party then! ;D 8)
I guess we should start to finalize the route and the accommodations. I guess we can determine the amount of miles we would like to ride each day and fins a suitable location for finding accommodations, and tentatively plans on the National Parks as at least a day apiece (to make sure we have time to spend at the locations and to see things), even though some of those days may be pretty short 150-200 miles or less.
I guess we can all take a stab at it based on the current route.
-
Here is my attempt at Day 1:
https://goo.gl/maps/7RytGhDk8bWn5yat5 (https://goo.gl/maps/7RytGhDk8bWn5yat5)
To Sundance, WY. And here is the link to a possible AirBnb, it is above a bakery and has four (4) actual bedrooms!
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/45163318?check_in=2021-07-23&check_out=2021-07-24&guests=1&adults=4&s=67&unique_share_id=cc0f7842-3756-491c-a4ae-9ec6a8381e22 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/45163318?check_in=2021-07-23&check_out=2021-07-24&guests=1&adults=4&s=67&unique_share_id=cc0f7842-3756-491c-a4ae-9ec6a8381e22)
$328 for the night.
Thoughts?!
-
I like it!!
-
Looks good but I wonder if they're letting traffic through the reservation yet.
-
I believe that is open now. I do not see anything on the sd511.org or the reservation website...
-
Looks good to me as well. 500 miles is a long day, but we can do it!
Shawn mentioned that he and Nick talked about wanting to book hotels instead of Airbnbs on the way out and back so I want to be sure those guys are ok with doing Airbnb's. Personally I prefer Airbnbs but that's just my opinion. I just don't want to get get too far along with bookings and not have everyone on board.
What is your guy's opinions and preferences?
-
Ok. I had not heard that about hotels but I do have quite a few rewards points for hotels (because of work trips) so I can definitely incorporate both maybe base it on quality, beds/bedrooms, and price. I am very busy at work and it is only going to get worse moving forward...so, it would be helpful if anyone who has time could also give it a try.
-
Hotels could be an optional work around if we don't know what miles we can make going out there or heading home? I am fine with air bed houses!!! I like it!!
-
Well, I think the next stop will be Steamboat Springs, CO.
https://goo.gl/maps/c1xzJKMiJUNL4k8g7 (https://goo.gl/maps/c1xzJKMiJUNL4k8g7)
It looks like we will need to stay in a hotel there. All the AirBnb's or other rental homes, condos, etc. seem to want you to stay more than one night...or there rate with cleaning fee is ridiculous.
I have plenty of rewards points for IHG hotels, but there are plenty of hotels to choose from. Does someone else want to go thru and take a look at what they might like. My thought is it would be the best if we could somehow find a suite where we could all stay in the same place and not have to have two (2) separate rooms...but if we can find it or it is too much than two (2) rooms is fine.
Let me know your ideas, thoughts and I will book the place.
Later,
Nate Dogg
-
Would you be opposed to staying a little further west? Like in Criag, CO? Reason I ask is that will keep us further west and closer to our UT destination as well as avoid the expensive accommodations in Steamboat. Not as scenic I realize, but probably better for making time. Nothing much for BnB's, but quite a few hotels. Looks like IGH's are going to be pushing $160 a night for 2 queens. Otherwise there is a quaint little hotel there for around $80 per night https://elkruninn.com/ . Craig Hotel appears to be somewhat reasonable by the prices on Google, but I cant find a website for them anywhere. I have an email into this place to see if they have availiblity and if so how much http://lodgingincraigcolorado.com/
https://goo.gl/maps/sfALUhwWwN85huhp7
I'm not opposed to Steamboat, just throwing the Craig option out there.
-
Sounds good. Keep me posted on what you find out about the other places.
I just thought Steamboat Springs had a certain sentimental value for you and Nickoli...because of the hilarious Kombucha conversation!! ;D :P
-
We used to stay at the Elk Run Inn when we hunted out there, it's a decent hotel with a couple of large rooms that we could probably all stay in.
-
No reply from the cabin place. In looking closer I wonder if they are winter destinations only. I looked at more places in Steamboat, but they are pretty expensive. I think the Elk Run Inn might be the best bang for the buck for this stop. I'm good with it, how about everyone else?
-
I am good with it, but I thought I would throw one other option out there...
If Steamboat Springs vs. Craig is not an issue, I am able to utilize a free night for one room and points for the other at the Holiday Inn. So, no money, free!
https://www.ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/us/en/steamboat-springs/sbsco/hoteldetail?fromRedirect=true&qAms=null&qSrt=sAV&qDest=Steamboat%20Springs,%20CO&qCiD=24&qCiMy=062021&qCoD=25&qCoMy=062021&setPMCookies=true&srb_u=1 (https://www.ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/us/en/steamboat-springs/sbsco/hoteldetail?fromRedirect=true&qAms=null&qSrt=sAV&qDest=Steamboat%20Springs,%20CO&qCiD=24&qCiMy=062021&qCoD=25&qCoMy=062021&setPMCookies=true&srb_u=1)
Also, it has Rex's American Grill and Bar attached...
I am good either way, but please respond because I am not sure how long Reward Nights options will last, but even with partial points it would be $72/night...
Anyway, one more option.
-
I like sentimental things!!
-
I like sentimental things too!
If that's where you'd like to use some points up I'm good with it.
-
We are locked in at the Holiday Inn @ Steamboat Springs, CO. (FREE)
I am currently thinking the next stop will be either Grand Junction, CO or Green River, UT. The thought is we could maybe stay at this next location for two (2), maybe three (3) nights depending on location to parks and accommodations.
-
Lots of options in the Green River and Moab area. This would put us close to Canyonlands and Arches.
2 night stays in these links:
Green River:

-
Moab looks like a nice spot, close to two parks.
-
I like Moab, seems more scenic and is a larger town so more options for food, etc.
Do we have a preference between these two options? Were these the best options Russell? Or should I take another look?
-
They were the nicest without spending too much and had enough beds. You could sure take a look also to be sure I didnt miss a gem. Also, do we want to spend 2 nights here or only 1?
-
I think two (2) nights works and makes sense. I was thinking that the next stop would/could be Panguitch, Utah...for maybe another two (2) night stay.
-
I like it all !!!
-
Nick likes it all !!! What's not to like about that ?
Check this place out, its brand new, has enough beds and is the most economical of them all:

I think for Day 3, Steamboat Springs, CO to Moab, UT, this will be the updated route:
https://goo.gl/maps/AMEey5Ex24RvJd9W6 (https://goo.gl/maps/AMEey5Ex24RvJd9W6)
Probably just take this route thru Colorado National Monument along Rimrock Drive, and not worry much about McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area. They say it takes at least an hour to go the 22.5 miles along Rimrock Drive...not including stops and possible short hikes.
-
Nice work! You have been busy! I'll work on adding everything to the first post of this thread so it is all together in one spot.
Next step will be to make the GPS files. I'll start on that soon.
-
Gentlemen:
Well, the cost for the accommodations is like this:
--- Total = $3890.60
--- Each persons part = $972.65 ($3890.60 / 4)
--- So, the total cost per person, per night, is $108.07.
I hope this is satisfactory to everyone...
Let me know.
-
I have updated post #1 in this thread to include all of our stops and have attached the GPS routes as well.
-
Nice work! Cheers!!
-
Oh and all of the routes are in myrouteapp for those of you who have accounts and want to look at them there.
Cheers!
-
I made Rosalies in Sisseton the starting point for our trip. Are you guys good meeting at Rosalies?
The route says roughly 11 hours of drive time to get to Sundance from Rosalies. If we meet at 7:00am, take an hour to eat, that would mean we would get to Sundance at 7pm and that's with no stops. Add in some gas stops and we would probably be looking more at somewhere between 8pm and 9pm.
It would mean leaving around 5:30am for all of us, but who is sleeping anyway with the excitement of the trip?!?! ;D
You guys good with those times? Should we plan on it?
-
Does that take into account gaining the hour into mountain time?
-
I like it!!
-
No, I dont believe that is taking that into account. Good point. So arrival between 7pm and 8pm.
-
I'll be ready to go whenever you want to head out.
-
So, I guess we better confirm timeline for Friday. Are planning on meeting at Rosalie's @ 7:00am?!
-
I think that is what everyone is planning, me included. See you at Rosalies at 7:30am!
-
Pastries!!!
-
I have created a new photo album for this trip and uploaded the pictures I had. I also figured out how to add the track map so our track shows up. You will see it when you first go to the picture page, and you can click on the "Track Map" when you go to the 2021 Utah National Parks album where you can interact with the map and see the elevation. Unfortunately it is in meters and there doesn't seem to be a place to change it to feet. Anyway, those of you with logins, please upload your photos so we can all see!
