Starting this so we can get a date narrowed down.
I think we all agreed that later was going to work best.
Here are my available dates for August:
Friday July 31 through however long into the first week of August.
Friday August 7. Hoffman Harvest Festival is the next weekend, so a week long trip wouldnt work, but a shorter one would.
Friday August 21 to ?
Friday August 28 to ?
What are your guys schedules looking like?
-
I am good for anytime during August, at least at this point anyway. I may have a work trip that month but not yet, so picking a date or dates would be good.
-
Sometime in August I hope, beginning to the middle of August. How many days for this trip We thinking?
-
If Nick would prefer beginning to mid August, then maybe the July 31 date would be the best so we arent getting so close to Harvest Festival.
How many days? I suppose it depends on how far we plan on going. Maybe just a long weekend? Wisconsin? Oskosh?
-
Gentlemen,
How about Madeline Island and the Apostle Islands in northern Wisconsin? I have never been there and it is a little closer than Washington Island.
Thoughts?
How many days works for you Nick?
Just let us know.
-
Kinda up fore anything, just need to know where I will be sitting with building project. I am picking up we are not going to take a long trip like we have in the past, so any time off for the trip is good with me.
-
Nate, could you post a google map of what you are thinking?
-
Gents,
Here is an updated tentative route...the 1st one is my total distance, the 2nd is you fellas from Hoffman...

By the way gents...finding a place to stay in this area is not going to be easy. I did some looking and things are still sold out for the July 31st weekend. No real great AirBnB's, typical hotels, etc. Mostly local independent resorts, bed and breakfast, and hotels...
We may want to determine the timing based off availability and book soon!
I did find this Casino was available for 2 double-queen rooms the weekend of August 14th thru 17th.

Yea, I like the route. Maybe tweak it a little and not go so far south on the way back, but we can adjust that anytime, I like the destination.
The hotel is fairly expensive for what it is. I did an airbnb search and found quite a few in Bayfield. I think this one would work:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33566551?location=Bayfield%2C%20WI%2C%20United%20States&adults=4&check_in=2020-08-14&check_out=2020-08-17&source_impression_id=p3_1585883334_m3l7045HIpF35Pik&guests=4

Book it! That one never came up for me and it still doesn't...better get while we can!
Well, I take that back I never completed another full search of different dates other than July 31st weekend...but I still don't think we will find better.
I also saw this as something we could check out, besides the ferry to Madeline Island...

I'm in, those dates should work for me. I think Kellie might even tag along if that's okay with everyone.
-
August 14, 15 & 16 is Harvest Festival. Its usually the second week in August, I guess they figure that starting on Friday, so the 7th would be the first Friday. Will a different weekend work? Maybe the next weekend, the 21-24?
-
The Stevens County Fair is the 11th through the 16th so the next weekend would work better for me too.
-
Gentlemen,
The place Russ found is not available the next weekend August 21st thru 24th...could we make August 7th thru 10th work?! It is available, currently, that weekend.
Please post your responses or email everyone.
Thanks,
Dogg

August 7-10 works for me also.
-
I will be playing it day by day, but it looks good me!!
-
That works for me, as long as the government says that we can.
-
August 7th - 10th it is!
Updated route...for you!

Got it marked down in my calendar!
I know with this covid stuff going on we might be taking a gamble on if we should or can go, but hey, the casinos are closed and this sounds like a winner to me!
Count me in with the understanding that if something doesn't work out we may have to pay a cancellation.
-
What do others think about booking this place...and paying 50% cancellation fee, plus $185 service fee if we need to cancel sometime 48 hours after booking and within 7 days before the actual trip?
I need to have this verified before I book...because I don't really want to pay these fees myself or pay the full price staying at the place myself if no one else can go....
Please post here or email everyone.

Nate Dogg

There is a lot of uncertainty with this covid stuff yet, so its hard to decide. If I am figuring right the stay would be $1794 total. Divide that by 2 to get 50% is $897. Divide that 5 ways for a total of $179 per person if we have to cancel.
Airbnb does have an extenuating circumstances policy here:
https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/2701/extenuating-circumstances-policy-and-the-coronavirus-covid19
But, they pretty much say booking now is on you and they wont cover you if something covid related comes up because you are knowledgeable to what is going on:
Our extenuating circumstances policy is intended to protect guests and hosts from unforeseen circumstances that arise after booking. After the declaration of COVID-19 as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization, the extenuating circumstances policy no longer applies because COVID-19 and its consequences are no longer unforeseen or unexpected. Please remember to carefully review the host's cancellation policy when booking and consider choosing an option that provides flexibility.
So I guess a risk of losing $179 if everyone agrees to cover their part in the event we cant go is what it comes down to.
I am good with it and will pay $179 if we cant go.
-
It is what it is. I can send you a check for Kellie and I.
-
It is booked, and you should receive emails about some of the details.
I just wanted everyone to know upfront what the cancellation policy was, as I am not sure we have ever stayed at a place with this strict of cancellation policy before. I wanted to know everyone knew what we were getting into.
Anyway, I guess the rate comes out to roughly $119.63 / person per night, or $359.90 / person for the entire stay.
Bayfield Wisconsin, Apostle Islands, and Madeline Island here we come...in August!
-
Karin is really wanting to go for a bike ride and I am wondering if anyone would object to her riding along?
-
She can sleep with me?!!! ;D
-
I'm sure she would be fine with a couch if there is one.
-
There is definitely a couch or two available...and I checked, this AirBnb charges just a nightly rate and is not affected by the number of guests...
-
Ladies and Gentlemen:
With the addition of Karin on the trip we will be dividing the cost among six (6) not five (5). So, I am going to try and coherently describe the recalculation of the cost breakdown and redistribution of wealth....feel free to check my math. Sometimes I don't math well!
The original place on Lake Superior (which I still wish we were going to, damnit!) was $1794.48.
Here is the breakdown of what everyone has paid:
- Shawn & Kellie = $720
- Russ = $360
- Nick = $359.90
- myself = $359.90
I just realized I was off by a dollar each, it should have been $358.90 each, not the $359.90 I told you. See I told you I don't math well!!
The new place on Lake Nebagamon (which, to clarify, is only 65-70 miles one-way to Bay City) is $1264.14. This comes out to $210.69 divided by six (6).
I owe...
- Shawn and Kellie = $720 - $421.38 = $298.62 ($300)
- Russ = $360 - $210.69 = $149.31 ($150)
- Nick = $359.90 - $210.69 = $149.21 ($150)
- Karin owes $210.69
If she pays Shawn & Kellie her share $210.69, then I only owe them $87.93 ($88)
Let me know if that seems correct and that Karin is paying you (Shawn and Kellie).
Thanks
Nate Dogg
