We had a lot going on in the previous thread so I thought I would start a new one with the offical dates we have locked in. Approximate locations I think are pretty well decided with the Rapid City SD area being the first stop and the Steamboat Springs CO area being the next. Nearby towns are fine and might be dependent on available accommodations and things do and see. Nothing set yet for the half way point on the way home.
Friday June 7th - Home to Rapid City SD https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33340361
Saturday June 8th - Tour Rapid City SD area
Sunday June 9th - Tour Rapid City SD area
Monday June 10th - Rapid City SD to Fairplay CO https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/26224087
Tuesday June 11th - Tour Fairplay CO area
Wednesday June 12th - Tour Fairplay CO area
Thursday June 13th - Tour Fairplay CO area

Gentlemen.
Here are some choices for the Rapid City area:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/26062527?s=51 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/26062527?s=51) = $1140 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) *This one is nice but does not have A/C.
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/32693335?s=51 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/32693335?s=51) = $1386 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) *This one has a garage, I think we can sweet talk them into letting us utilize it.
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19178318?s=51 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19178318?s=51) = $1369 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) *This one has a garage, I think we can sweet talk them into letting us utilize it.
I will check for more tonight...back to work!
-
i suppose it that time of the season where the prices go up for lodging for the tourist and campers visiting the black Hills? would we want to stay more central located in the Hills, go to Rushmore, the wind cave, the needles road, etc.? we got two days to do all of this!!
-
Nickoli, I am not sure what you mean by in the hills or centrally located...these are in the hills. All are located by Lead. I am not finding many closer to Rapid City.
This one is also in or near Lead, but much cheaper.
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/25085653?s=51 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/25085653?s=51) = $871 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights)
-
that one looks cozy and better priced. i like it!! just forget my comment on centrally located, i realize the black hills is not that huge, that we cant navigate from anywhere from where we stay with ease!! 2 wheel riders will dominate the hills!!
-
Yes! Let us dominate!!
How about these?
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19177288?s=51 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19177288?s=51) = $1156 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights)
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/14199669?s=51 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/14199669?s=51) = $1362 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) by Deadwood.
I changed some settings in my search and I am finding more now. I will keep posting, pick your favorites, and then we will narrow it down to three and pick one.
-
Not to Speak for anyone else, but i am up for bargain priced lodging. it can add up fast!!
-
Okay, Nick. What would be your preferred top dollar per person per night price?
-
$96.77
-
That is very specific! So, you are saying nothing more than the Gold Run Cabin @ $871 for the 3 days...
-
Better deals are always welcomed!!!
-
Hmm, $871/3= $290.33 290.33/3= $96.77 Nicks reply #8 $96.77. Coincidence??? ;D
If we are bargain shopping, yea, Nathans reply #3 is the best. We don't get garage space and would have to share bedrooms.
If a garage and bedrooms are important, these get my vote:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/32693335?s=51 = $1386 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) *This one has a garage, I think we can sweet talk them into letting us utilize it.
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19178318?s=51 = $1369 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) *This one has a garage, I think we can sweet talk them into letting us utilize it.
If Shawn is coming for the 3 first nights, my opinion would be to go for one of the more expensive so we each have a bedroom and possibly a garage and would be able to justify the more expensive cost by splitting it 4 ways.
-
Russ,
I thought you told us to not plan on Shawn...should we now, at least for the Black Hills?
Please let me know how to proceed.
Thanks,
-
Here is some final Black Hills accommodations...

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/18946190?s=51 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/18946190?s=51) = $758 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights)
These are a little higher priced but they will not disappoint!
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33492577?s=51 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33492577?s=51) = $1505 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) *Clubhouse with heated pool, 3 stall garage, & more...

The prices are seeming to fluctuate a bit, so far some that I go back to are coming up at a higher price!
-
Hey thanks Nathan for all the options! I like the $625 with the garage! I will bring a sleeping bag and hit the couch if I have to!!??. Not trying to be a cheap ass, just thrifty!!
-
Russ,
I thought you told us to not plan on Shawn...should we now, at least for the Black Hills?
Please let me know how to proceed.
Thanks,
I got nothin on that Dogg. I was just saying if by chance he decided to go before we need to book that we could go with something more expensive. Probably shouldn't have thrown that in there because we are at that point now, sorry for the confusion. If no firm answer, then we probably have to plan for splitting 3 ways to be safe. Moneybags Nick can help pitch in. He is thrifty all year long so he can splurge on the trip! $$$ ;D
-
Hey thanks Nathan for all the options! I like the $625 with the garage! I will bring a sleeping bag and hit the couch if I have to!!??. Not trying to be a cheap ass, just thrifty!!
Wow, you have been busy Dogg! That's a lot of options! The $625 one is actually a pretty good deal for what it is. No reviews though, maybe its new? 3 bedrooms and a garage. But, there are some others that are pretty darn nice too. Are there any that are favorites of yours Dogg?
-
I say we lock in the Black Hills then if Shawn is not coming?! THRIFTILY...
-
Nick,
The one thing I forgot to mention is the one for $625 w/garage...it does not have air conditioning! So, I think I may want to choose something else...sorry Nick!
I will review the ones under $1000, and specifically the ones under $871 to determine my preference.
I would like to mention that you should also take a look at the locations...just so you are aware of where they are at. Most of the cabin types are by Lead, Deadwood, etc. Most of the cabins will have a little bit of gravel to get to them.
-
Location maybe not so relevant when the black hills isn't that huge to drive out and around to see things. Maybe the cabin isn't air conditioned because of the cool mountain fresh air?! Are there screens on the windows? Can they be opened? Just sayin...
-
I just asked for the time off to tag along to Rapid.
-
Sweet!!
-
Well, alright, alright, alright!
-
I'm still sticking with my original choices:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/32693335?s=51 = $1386 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) *This one has a garage, I think we can sweet talk them into letting us utilize it.
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19178318?s=51 = $1369 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) *This one has a garage, I think we can sweet talk them into letting us utilize it.
I inquired to see if they would make an exception on letting us use the garage outside of the Sturgis rally. I'll wait to hear back.
If no on the garage, then:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/21996727?s=51 = $1453 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) *Clubhouse with heated pool & more...
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33492577?s=51 = $1505 (Friday night thru Monday - 3 nights) *Clubhouse with heated pool, 3 stall garage, & more...
-
These houses have full bar and hooker service also? If the Garage is not included with the original price to start with, so you have ask to use it. This seems kinda high priced for just the house?
-
If i'm doing the math right that's like $125 per person per night?!?
-
hese houses have full bar and hooker service also? If the Garage is not included with the original price to start with, so you have ask to use it. This seems kinda high priced for just the house?

I didnt see anything about the hooker or full bar. Before the guy checks on the garage he wanted to let me know there is about 1 mile of gravel to travel on. How do you guys feel about that. It may not be the absolute cheapest, but at Shawns calculation of $125 per person per night, I would think it would be hard to find a hotel for less than that and you get a whole house instead of a small hotel room. Possibly even a garage.
-
Ok, wait a second, I had my calculations wrong. If it is $125 per person and we typically stay 2 people per hotel room, that would mean the hotel would have to be $250 to equate dollar wise to the house. That is a bit high I guess.
I will have to to through the lower dollar ones and get back with suggestions.
Given the cost and the mile of gravel, I told the guy we would pass and that he didn't have to inquire with the owner about the garage.
Lets get thrift shopping!
-
Hey thanks Nathan for all the options! I like the $625 with the garage! I will bring a sleeping bag and hit the couch if I have to!!??. Not trying to be a cheap ass, just thrifty!!
That one is now gone for our dates. And the rest of the cheapest have less than 4 beds.
These are the cheapest with 4 beds. None have 4 bedrooms, but at least 4 beds.
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/20587939?s=51&guests=4&adults=4&check_in=2019-06-07&check_out=2019-06-10 *$105 per person (country setting no garage)
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33340361?s=51&guests=4&adults=4&check_in=2019-06-07&check_out=2019-06-10 $79 per person (in town with garage)
Anybody got anything better?
-
what do think of the 79.00 dollar deal? anyone? the other one on a gravel road?
-
We wouldn't get the nature experience, but would be guaranteed a tar road and a garage. Maybe do that and look for a more back woods place in CO?
-
Done deal, home in the city is booked!
-
Way to go Dogg! Done deal! On to the next destination...
-
Here are a couple for Colorado...
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4332930?s=51 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4332930?s=51) = $100.42 / person per day. *with covered parking in Steamboat Springs, CO
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/23599896?s=51 (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/23599896?s=51) = $94.25 / person per day *located near Garo, CO
-
I think I like the second one best. I like the location better too. A little more south. Probably within a more reasonable driving distance to the dunes?
-
I like the second one, very nice mountain view!! The first one looks nice also, in town Steamboat!! Tuff decision?!! I LIKE IT!!
-
Here is another.
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/26224087?adults=3&check_in=2019-06-10&check_out=2019-06-15&guests=3&source_impression_id=p3_1556822839_ICiPSuW5Q4kGKpxH&s=Uq7x5EIg
$74 per person per day.
About 150 miles to Great Sand Dunes National Park.
-
,,,and again, I LIKE IT!! by a nice little town for some eats and treats?!! ;)
-
The guy said about 2.5 miles of gravel. Roads are well maintained and didnt see any problem coming in on motorcycles.
No AC, but he says you wont need it. Probably need heat in the evening.
Use of the 2 car garage included.
-
Nathan, why don't you have pic of your motorcycle on this forum??!!

-
wow!
-
Here are some more options...you didn't think I was going to only have two (2) did you!! ??? ::) ;D
Uh, yea, I thought you were going to make it easy for us :).
With so many great choices, should we look at 2 different places in CO? More northern for the first two nights and south for the remainder? Or would you all rather stay at one place?
I don't really have any specific destinations in mind at this point, but staying in two different spots might give us an opportunity to see more.
-
Nathan, why don't you have pic of your motorcycle on this forum??!!
Yea Nathan, why not?? Be proud and show off that Victory!
Or wait, doesnt he have a Victory any longer? Are you trying to tell us something?
-
Pot, kettle, black...Nickoli! Where is your bike?
-
Russ, I was maybe thinking the same thing about two locations over the five days...
-
I can do that, just shown off the states for now!!
-
In trying to stay below Nicks nightly rate of $96.77, and looking at Nathans great choices, I still go back to:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/26224087?adults=3&check_in=2019-06-10&check_out=2019-06-15&guests=1&source_impression_id=p3_1556822839_ICiPSuW5Q4kGKpxH
How about this? We stay 4 nights instead of 5, then make our way back home over 3 days to make for shorter days. It might be pushing it for Nathan to get back in 2 days.
I am still up for splitting CO into 2 locations if you guys would rather do that.
What do you guys think?
-
And if we do the 4 nights in CO, then the rest of the trip:
Harrison NE:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/18673750?adults=3&check_in=2019-06-14&check_out=2019-06-15&guests=1&source_impression_id=p3_1556946521_QdfTDyu0s6TD7wxL&s=Y0oPnY0z
And the final stop, Mitchell SD:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33423726?location=Sioux%20Falls%2C%20SD%2C%20United%20States&adults=3&check_in=2019-06-15&check_out=2019-06-16&guests=1&source_impression_id=p3_1556947294_u2GpD35u%2F%2FMmEVkT&s=ucGNl_6Y
And final destination, home!
-
It looks good! Fairplay and head back home.... :-\
-
It looks like you got this all figured out. I will defer to you guys...book it and we are all set.
-
Oh, that is only one option of many. I'd love to hear you guys ideas!
-
10th through the 14th booked!
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/26224087
-
Colorado here we come!! 3/4 of the 2 wheel riders will dominate your mountains and treats!!
-
I am leaning towards this place in Grant NE:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/22835022
About 300 miles from Fairplay CO. $60.33 per night per person.
This one is on a short bit of gravel, but is priced good and has a garage.
And this same one for Mitchell:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33423726
About 390 miles from Grant NE. $94.33 per night per person.
or here is another thrifty one instead of the Mitchell one Nick:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/5468416
A thrifty $3.55 per person! Yes, three dollars and fifty five cents! 57 reviews and 5 stars!
If you two are good with these, I'll get em booked up. Let me know!
-
That is thrifty!!
-
Russell,
I am good with your selections, as far as I am concerned go ahead and book em'.
Thanks for taking over the final leg of the accommodations! Seems like it has been very busy ever since I moved from the commercial design group (mechanical) to the performance group (controls - commissioning).
Anyway, thanks again, and just 4 weeks from tomorrow we will be 2wheelriding our way to the Black Hills!
L8r,
Nate Dogg
-
Ok, so it wasn't a short bit of gravel. The guy said it is about 10 miles. That's probably a little further that we want, especially if it is raining. Back to searching....
-
All booked! We are set. Now on to the routing....
-
Gentlemen;
For the first part of the trip's accommodations, in Rapid City, the total fee for that stay (June 7th-10th) is $947.53. I believe I heard everyone will be a part of that trip, so $947.53 / 4 = $236.88 per person or $78.96 / person per night.
I am not looking for this immediately but I thought I would get it out there for everyone's perusal and so I didn't forget.
Russ: Once you figure out your totals, and after subtracting the above amount, I believe I should owe you and you would not need to pay me anything...
Later,
Nate Dogg
-
where we all going to meet on the first day? Breakfast anyone? Sissiton, SD or Watertown, SD or somewhere else? Black Hills?!
-
Nickoli,
We can do whatever route you would like to Rapid City. Were you thinking Rosalie's Bakery in Sisseton, SD, again?! I do not think we will wait until the Black Hills for our first meet-up or breakfast!!
Here is a preliminary route for you to modify...
https://goo.gl/maps/p1p7coxNYYZ5xv7Y9 (https://goo.gl/maps/p1p7coxNYYZ5xv7Y9)
Later,
Nate Dogg
-
I like It !!!!! see you at Rosalie's Bakery !!!! No flat tires please....
-
Yeah, I do not want any flat tires or any other kind of mechanical issue....
Here are some things/places I found that we could do while in Rapid City area:

Oh boy, Rosalies! I say we skip the flat tires and indulge on pastries instead. Anyone else up for some pastries?!?!
I replicated your route on myrouteapp Nathan. Can you see it?
-
I would like to partake in pastries!
Yes, I can see your route via the app.
-
Cool! We won't have as many routes to make this year. Since I have the addresses for the rest of the destinations I'll get the start and end points entered in on myrouteapp and we can tweak from there.
-
Sounds good. Thanks buddy!

Unfortunately the COG train to the top of Pikes Peak is closed and they are trying to rebuild it and bring it back...but not until 2021!

So many things to do!! Maybe stay another week??
-
Gentlemen;
Later,
Nate Dogg
And for the remainder of the trip:
Fairplay CO - $902.85
Harrison NE - $150.16
Mitchell SD - $283.28
Total - $1336.29
Total divided by 3 - $445.43
Nicks total - $445.43
Nathans total - $366.47 ($445.43 - $78.96)
And the same deal as with Nathan, I don't need to get paid immediately. Everything is paid in full, so whenever it works for you two is fine.
Later...
Russ

Russ,
I believe you may want to re-check your math, as you only subtracted the price per day ($78.96) not the full amount per person ($236.88) from my bill. Unless I missed something and you are not staying with us the full time in Rapid City?!
I will wire you this amount, $208.55 via PayPal. ($445.43 - $236.88 = $208.55)
Please let me know if I missed something or am somehow confused in my old age! I know, I know, I am technically a year older than you at this time!
Nate Dogg
-
You may be older, but you are still sharper than me! ;D
Yes, you are correct. I will be with you the full time in Rapid City and yes, I did only subtract one night.
I like my initial total better, but yours is more accurate: $445.43 - $236.88 = $208.55
You and I should be square at this point. Thank you Sir!
-
Russell,
I can pay you the initial amount if you want me to, and it makes you feel better! I would just chalk it up as travel agent fees.
Just let me know.
You are welcome, Sir!
The Dogg

Ok, updated the first day to shave off some miles. It is in the same message as the rest of the files, I just updated it. It isn't exactly the same as yours Nick as I kept some of the Doggs roads, but it did take off some miles. How does it look?
-
And Nick according to what I see, Russ's is (that sounds weird) 2 whole minutes faster! : 8)
-
the first route was i think 2 hours more. i shortened it to less than that and Russ kept some of the original and it came back up in route time...?
-
I'm not sure what you mean. Are we good with the new route? Or is there something wrong with it?
-
Nathan's original route was 12+hrs and when i had the redone route down to 8hrs and 14 mins and when Russ re-did it it jumped up to 10 hrs? Its all good!!
-
Yea I noticed that the time differs online versus what my GPS says. I don't know if there are some speed limit differences or why there is a difference? Did you get a myrouteapp.com account set up?
-
i did set up an account, but something went wonky, it seems like i cant sign in.
-
You showed up as a friend and I accepted. Did you get logged in?
-
I created an album and uploaded some pictures. I still have some on my phone to add. Go ahead and upload any you might have as well. I tied the GPS coordinates from the tracker to the photos so some of them have GPS. Others where I didnt have the tracker on at the time (like before we would leave in the morning) dont have coordinates. It was a good trip. Thanks for the good times guys!
